It's 9:45 PM. Your ring says 24 of 64 oz, and you're standing at the sink trying to fit an entire day of water into the fifteen minutes before bed. You'll hit the goal. You'll also be up at 2 AM.
A daily goal tells you how much to drink, but not when. So Quenched 1.3 adds Hydration Consistency: a score from 1 to 10 for how steadily you drink across the day. It lives on the Today screen, in new widgets, and on your Apple Watch, and it's in the Android app too. It updates every time you log a drink and tells you when your next one is due.
Same 64 oz. Two very different days.
Both days hit the goal. Watch where the water lands.
The steady sipper
A glass every couple of hours from breakfast on.
The evening catch-up
A couple of small cups, then 48 oz after 6:30 PM.
What the score is
Hydration Consistency is a number from 1 to 10, to one decimal place, that grades how evenly your drinks are spread through your day. It's not a replacement for your daily goal. The goal still says how much; the score says how well you paced it.
It's a live score. Your first drink of the day starts it off, and from then on it only slips when you fall behind. At 9 PM (or whenever you say your day ends) it locks in as that day's final score.
The strip under the score is your day, from your first drink to the end of the day. The lavender part is time you've been on track. The white tick is now, and the faint lavender ahead of it is how long your last drink keeps you covered.
How it's scored
Two things go into the score. Tap the ⓘ on the card any time and Quenched explains both, with the numbers worked out for your own goal.
1. An early start
Drink a quarter of your daily goal before the morning cutoff, which is noon unless you change it. With a 64 oz goal that's 16 oz: a big glass with breakfast and a coffee-sized top-up. The early start counts the moment the drink that crosses that quarter goes in, so you'll see the score jump.

2. Steady spacing
Quenched turns your goal into a number of drinks to aim for: about one for every 10 oz (300 ml), between 4 and 12 a day. It then shares the day out between them. On a 64 oz goal starting at 7 AM, that's 6 drinks, one about every 2 hours 20 minutes.
Each drink keeps you on track for one of those stretches. Drink again before it runs out and you stay on track. If it does run out, you lose points for every minute until your next drink. That's all the strip is showing: lavender where you were covered, a gap where you weren't.
3. Pacing, not chugging
There's one more rule, and it's what stops the obvious trick. If you drink your whole goal by 7 AM, your drinks cover the morning and nothing covers the afternoon, but you're also done drinking. So Quenched counts that loss right away: drinking well ahead of your pace costs points immediately, because it leaves too little of your goal to cover the rest of the day. Front-load two big bottles before 7:30 and the score drops to about 4.6 on the spot, which is also where it ends the day. Drink past your goal later on and it starts climbing again.
Try it: play a day
Here's the scoring running live, with a 64 oz goal, a noon cutoff and a 9 PM end of day. Pick a day and watch the score move as the clock runs, or build your own.
It tells you what to do next
A score is only useful if it changes what you do, so next to it Quenched always shows one short line about what's next:
- Time for your first sip — nothing logged yet today. The card is ready and waiting.
- Next drink by 11:31 AM — you're on track until then. Drink before that time and you won't lose a thing.
- Time for a drink — your last drink's stretch has run out and the score is slipping. One glass fixes it.
- On track for the rest of the day — your last drink covers you until the day ends.
- Goal accomplished — you've hit today's goal, so there's no next drink to chase.
- Final score for today — the day's over and the number is locked in.
On your Home Screen and your wrist
The new Hydration Consistency widget puts your whole day on a ring: it runs clockwise from the top, lavender where you were on track, with a tick for right now and today's score in the middle. The small size is just the ring. The medium adds what's next and the last seven days, and the large one has room for all of it. Add it the same way as any other Quenched widget.
On Apple Watch, the score has its own page in the Quenched app, right after the seven-day chart, with the same status line and strip. There are complications for the Smart Stack and watch faces too, from the ring on a circular complication to the score and the week on a rectangular one. See our Apple Watch guide for the rest of the watch app.
On Android, you'll find the card on Today, a Home Screen widget in three sizes, and the chart under Trends.
See your rhythm build
With Quenched Pro, Trends adds a Hydration Consistency chart under your hydration chart: a bar for each day, or a monthly average over longer ranges, plus your average for the period and how it's changed. It's the easiest way to see whether new habits are actually sticking.
Make it fit your day
Noon and 9 PM work for most people, but not for everyone. If you work nights, get up at 5, or never sleep before 1 AM, go to Settings → Hydration Consistency and move the Morning cutoff and End of day to match your life. The morning cutoff can be as early as 5 AM, and the day can run until 11:59 PM. Trends rescores your past days with the new times, so your history stays comparable. Your times follow you to your Apple Watch.
Not for you? Flip the switch off on the same screen and the card, the Trends chart and the watch page all disappear. Turn it back on any time; your drinks are all still there, so your history comes straight back.
A few details
- Which drinks count. Any drink that hydrates keeps you on track, so tea, sparkling water and milk all count, not just water. Drinks that take away hydration, like a beer, never put you on track.
- Small sips are fine. The score cares about timing, not size. A few ounces at the right moment keeps you on track as well as a pint does.
- A great day isn't a perfect day. You'll see a 9-something most days if you drink steadily. A 10 needs a good morning and no gaps at all, and nobody should stress over the last decimal.
- It's a habit tool, not medical advice. The score measures one thing: how evenly your drinks are spread across your day. If you have a condition that affects how much or when you should drink, follow your doctor's advice over any app.
